I've made my own start page on the harddrive. I've set Explorer to start
with it, its my "homepage".

Problem is every damn time I start the browser I get that annoying popup
telling me that to protect me, Explorer has restricted the file from
showing active content... how the heck do I get it to stop doing that?

This may work :-
Go to Tools-Internet Options-Privacy-Sites then type in the address of
the site and click Allow

Or try the Security tab and trusted sites

Its a file on my harddrive, not a site. And you can't enter anything but
http/https were you suggest.

You can enter IP numbers, you may also be able to enter the host name
of your machine.

On the security tab for each of the zones you can use the Custom Level
button to set various parameters.

Neither worked - possibly because nothing is being served.

However I had overlooked Internet Options/Advanced/Security/Allow active
content to run in files on my computer.

Internet Explorer doesn't appear to be able to display HTA/CHM files.

That seems way to complicated anyway.

Well, try to turn on Active content from the IE properties, by going to
Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet Connections >> Double
click on Internet Options and there on the IE properties window click on
Advanced Tab scroll down under Security Option:
[ ] Allow Active content to run in the files on my computer check this
box

Click Apply and OK to close the IE properties and try your page and see if
the alert will go.
HTH.
Regs,
nass
