Jeff

I have a rather curious problem with Internet Explorer.
When I start IE I get an error that the page cannot be
displayed, however many other programs which access the
Internet, i.e. Norton Antivirus Live Update, have no
problems. I also have no problem accessing the Internet by
first going to a saved FTP site in My Network places, and
then I can surf at will. However, any new window that pops
up has the same network/resolution problems. I have not
installed SP2 yet. Any thoughts?

Jeff,

From a command window:
1) Ping www.yahoo.com.
2) Ping 66.94.230.33.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

From your browser:
3) Browse www.yahoo.com.
4) Browse 66.94.230.33.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

Give us some idea of your service. What connection do you have - broadband or
dialup? How is your computer connected - directly or behind a router?

Please provide ipconfig information.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with each ipconfig listing.

Cheers,
Chuck

FYI. I looked through some other articles and found a
solution from Chuck that reset the winsock settings. I
guess Spyware is getting more and more sneaky and in many
cases as frustrating as viruses.... Here's the solution
that fixed my problem.

Jeff

First, reset your LSP / Winsock (in case one of your
installed programs loaded a
Winsock component).

Give LSP-Fix and WinsockLSPFix a shot
<http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm>

If you have SP2, Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh winsock
reset catalog" into
the command window. Reboot.

Reload TCP/IP using Start - Run - "cmd". Type "netsh int
ip reset c:\netsh.txt"
into the command window. Reboot again.
