Internet Access failded

after malware infected my DESKTOP PC I had to reinstalled XP 2002 and SP2,
but thereafter I could not update since internet access failed. I think the
problem is due to erroneos network configuration or internet explorer because
intrnet access works when i am connected with the same ethernet cable, modem
and internet provider.
How can I resolve the problem?
