Internet Explorer playing silly buggers

Since installing Zone Alarm and several antispyware programs I've been having
nothing but trouble with Internet Explorer. 9 times out of 10 when I've
opened IE and tried to get to a website I keep getting "page cannot be
displayed blah blah *@+&** blah. It's happening all the time and it's driving
me up the wall - it's just taken me half an hour to try and access this forum
just to type this question. Can anyone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me what's
happened because if it doesn't stop soon then mister fist is going to go
through mister monitor's screen. Thank you.

I never understand why the monitor gets all the blame.
Throw the box out the window, or else just the hard drive!
Zone Alarm may be the culprit. It was in my case.
You then have the choice of either visiting the ZA forums to troubleshoot
the problem, or switching to another antivirus.
This one is free:
Sygate Personal Firewall

if that's the case is there anything I can do about it? It's a bit
frustrating when you're advised to download as many spyware blockers as
possible to protect your computer only to find it causes you a load of extra
grief.

Try disabling one blocker at a time.
With the firewall, be sure you have got your XP firewall up in its place.
Only surf safe sites like NY Times, weather service, etc for your tests.
You will probably find that only one blocker is to blame, and as I said, it
is probably your ZoneAlarm.

I'm still getting problems with this - like you say it's definitely being
caused by Zone Alarm and after visiting the Zone Labs forum many other users
are experiencing the same problem. One thing which keeps happening to me is
that I can't access web pages and when I go to my Network Connections and
click on the Advanced button I find that the box next to the XP firewall has
been ticked meaning that it's on - yet I switched it off when I installed
Zone Alarm. I've just had a load of problems trying to access the net so out
of curiosity I went to my Network Connections to check the XP Firewall status
and lo and behold it was ticked on again. I switched it off and the problem
accessing the net stopped straight away. So why is my XP Firewall switching
itself on all the time and seemingly causing a conflict with Zone Alarm?

I did and kept getting god almighty crashes occuring. I've been playing
around with ZoneAlarm over the last few weeks and seem to be getting it
sorted but only time will tell.
