Internet Explorer only works when I sign onto AOL

Hello,
I have a broadband cable modem and Internet Explorer only works when I sign
onto aol. If I want to check something really quickly on the net I shouldn't
have to sign onto aol. I should be able to double click Internet Explorer on
my desktop. I've contaced aol and they tried to help. They walked me
through steps that should have worked and since it didn't they told me to
contact Internet Explorer. I am not computer savvy and do not have the money
to pay microsoft for the assisted support so here I am. Can anyone help?

You may have to change some settings on the Connection tab in IE's Options,
like removing proxy servers, etc. AOL installs proprietary connection junk
into the TCP/IP stack, too, so you may have to reinstall that as well. See
