Internet explorer not responding

Suddenly Internet explorer is not responding when I try to open it. CPU at
near 100% and "not responding". Any help appreciated, should I try
re-installing?

That happened to me.
Go to internet properties, and untick - enable protected mode.

That should fix it, but you'll get an annoying information bar everytime you
open a web page

The same thing happened to me, I tried System Resotre, and everything was
back to normal.

Try Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Internet Explorer(No Addons) and
see it it launches and works ath this point.
If so, post back.

Do you have Java 1.5 installed? Some people have been having an issue with
this combination. The fix is either no Java, or installing Java 1.6 Beta.

Now that we know it works with no addons then we know for sure it is an addon
causing your problem.

In IE7 go to tools/manage addons/enable disable addons.

disable every addon in there.

Retry IE and start enabling addons one by one until u get the problem back.
Then you will know which addon is causing it.

Mark most likely hit it right on the head with Sun java causing the issue.
Most likely ssv is causing the issue.
They have an updated version on their website.

It was, Colin. And I didn't catch it until you just pointed it out... Glad
somebody's watching!

The current version of Java 5 is build 1.5.0_07, and I have build 1.5.0_06
on my Windows 2000 Pro.

I assumed that 1.6 was a reference to the build number.

Sorry< I meant Java 5 and 6, having a bad day. Anyway, the bottom line is
installing Java 6 beta solves the problem, everything is now working again,
thanks to all
