Internet Explorer hangs when browsing opens a new window

Muppet

IE6 does hang each time it opens a new window upon
clicking a link on a Web page.

It starts fine and I can browse OK, but it hangs each time
a new windows starts when browsing.
This is really annoying as it basically prevents me from
using it.

I run XP and I have SP1 for both XP and IE installed.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jacques
