Internet Explorer freezing up

I am having a problem with Internet Explorer (6.0). Over the last week I have
had problems with trying to go from one web site to another only to have I E
lock up and then the program does not respond.

I have checked my connection with my cable company and everything seems to
be working fine. Outlook Express works fine as well. Just I E freezes up. My
cable company told me to contact Microsoft but they wanted $35.00 to help or
suggested I post here.

Can anyone tell me how to fix Internet Explorer? What do I need to do to
stop this from happening. If anyone has detailed info I would appreciate it.
