Internet Explorer Favorite Icons

D

Dave

Hello.

For a short time, I had the icons listed in my favorites
that pertained to each site. Yahoo sites had a red Y
logo, CNN had it's own logo, etc. Now, they are gone
and I am wondering how to get those back. The blue
Explorer icon is listed now.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Dave

Its a design bug in IE. Those icons, called Favicons, are stored in
cache...which by definition, is a temporary storage area.

To make them permanent, perform the following steps:
* Manually clear TIF (Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files...)
* Save page as favorite (Favicon is only downloaded during this step)
* Open 2 windows side by side -- the TIF view from within IE, and
a Windows Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) window, set to the
folder/directory you wish to store the Favicons in.
* Drag-n-drop favicon.ico from TIF to the Explorer folder
* Rt-click on the Favorite, click Properties, then Web Document
* Invoke "Change Icon..." dialog and set to the .ico file you just dragged
* Repeat for each site

There are also 3rd-party apps that do this.
