Internet Explorer does not access any web pages

I an Using Windows 98 and IE Ver 60.2800.1106.

IE was working fine but it just stopped accessing any web sites. It
gives the message "The page cannot be displayed." Email, newsgroups
and Netscape work.

The only recent change I made was to install Norton AntiVurus 2004. I
tried using IE with NAV autodetect disabled but no joy. Before I had
been using Norton System Works 2001.04 which includes the Antivirus
with no problems. I still have NSW ffor components other than NAV. I
am not sure that the NAV is causing the problem.

I would appreciate any tips.

Carlos

It sounds like you picked up some spyware, or even a proxy server. If so, you
need to download some software to find and destroy it (Spybot Search & Destroy
and Ad-Aware Personal are both free and effective), and some software to prevent
it from happening (SpywareBlaster is also free).

I ran adaware which removed more than 200 items. Then I ran spybot
which removed about 30 items. However the problem with IE 6 persists.
Please help.
