Internet Explorer Crashes When Entering a URL

When I enter a URL in IE6 or when I try to enter a file name in a File Open or File Save box in other MS products, they crash with no error message. No problem with Windows Explorer or Netscape.
 
Try deleting IE's history; that could solve things.

Or, delete the history folder in its entirety:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers4.htm#history

Otherwise, there is a registry key that may be corrupt, specifically:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedUrls

Delete ONLY the TypedUrls key.
 
Thanks for your reply Sandi. This appears to be a problem bigger than IE, though. Note in my email that the same problem exists in other MS products (Word, Excel, etc.) when I try to enter a file name in a File Open or File Save box. What do you think?
 
I think perhaps you need to refer to a general discussion group for your OS,
or even an Office group. I really don't know what the answer could be :(
