Internet explorer crashes explorer.exe in limited accounts only

Running Internet Explorer from a Limited Account in XP
will start to load a page and just about when it is done
Internet Explorer closes and explorer.exe closes and then
starts up again. This does not happen from Administrator
account. Changing the limited account to administrator
fixes it but then the problem returns when the zccount is
put back to limited.

It sounds as though you have some Internet Related software installed in the
Admin account for which privileges don't exist in the limited account.

Most applications weren't designed for this type of multi-user environment.
Such applications need to be installed in each specific user's account to
whom you wish to grant access.

First, be sure the account to which you wish to grant access is set to
administrator and not limited. Install the applications to the same folder
in which it was originally installed. This will look the same as one
install on your hard drive but create the pointers necessary for this user
to have access to the application.

Once the installation is complete, you can return the account to its limited
status if that is what you want and the user should still have access.

Thanks for the idea, but this problem just started a few
days ago, and nothing new has been added to the admin
account. Any other ideas, or a way to track the
problem. I get no error messages.

Since it's a relatively recent issue, try using System Restore to take you
back to a time prior to when this began. Start\All
Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Restore.

That said, you still cannot rule out Internet Related applications that
might be installed on your system as the culprit. Sometimes things don't
start going bad immediately. Sometimes, it's the result of other updates
since any such update can change the system environment and perhaps
something has change it enough for this to be an issue.

In the limited account, after this happens, you might also try checking the
Event Viewer for any errors that correspond to when this began. Though they
might simply point to IE or Explorer (these are only symptoms and not the
cause) they may reference another application that you can then pinpoint as
the source of the issue.

Open Control Panel, open Administrative Tools, open Event Viewer, go to all
sections looking for errors that correspond to when this happens, double
click the error, the information contained within may give a clue as to the
source of the issue.
