Internet Explorer crashes during purchase phase of transaction

I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem with a buddy of mines' computer (Sony computer with Windows XP). He tries to make online purchases and everything seems fine until he hits the submit button and the browser window closes... No error message or warning. He said he tried system restore and also a reinstall of Internet Explorer, but neither worked. Any suggestions? Thanks!
