Internet explorer browser problems

Hello, I have windows Xp installed on my laptop. Something happened and now
I am unable to access any webpages. I can get the yahoo messenger to work but
cannot get a page to load. All pages say unable to connect.
When I type something different in the address bar it changes it to : http:///

I need help to figure out the Http:///

Explain that a bit different.
http://.... is the right format of web pages. (normally)
I see you put 3 /'s, is that the error your yours?

that should read " is that the error OR yours?"
