internet explorer and add-ons

Not sure why, but my new version of internet explorer has suddenly has
suddenly decided to operate with add-ons disabled, and does not give me
the chance to enable them again as in the tools menu that option is not
highlighted. Does anyone know what's going on?

Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Check the box to Enable third-party browsing enhancements. Note that if the
add-ons have not been updated this might easily cause problems.
