Internet Explorer 7 Error

When I install the windows defender 2 beta, and try to download something
(anything) in Internet Explorer 7 (beta 2), it downloads, but fails at the
end.
Here's an example:
1. I download something from download.com
2. I save the program on my desktop
3. It starts to download
4. When it comes to 99%-100%. the download window just closes...

I know this is windows defenders fault, because when I uninstall it, the
downloading works just fine.
I also tried quitting windows defender when it was installed, and
terminating the processes and the defender service... Still no good.

Hi Vigylant,

i use Fresh Download now for 5 years, it is free and without popups an
spyware and you can get it here:
http://www.freshdevices.com/
better use this and let WD does the good work and when the 2 Beta's are
final i hope the work well, but i think after that u stay on with Fresh
Download.

Yes, it seems that others are having all kinds of download problems,
including downloaded files just disappearing or end up in the recycle bin.
But it is not happening to everyone - just to some. There's been somekind of
workaround discussed by the pros that involves editing the registry. I
certainly would not do that. If Defender worked properly that would not be
necessary, and it should not be necessary to install some 3rd party freeware
just to download a program. This is ridiculous!

Please send email to:

Microsoft has a fix for this issue, but it requires running some analytic
tools, I believe.

Microsoft now has an automated tool to do some of the analysis involved in
fixing this issue. Folks should email Mike Treit, who is posting in these
groups with a clear email.

Thaks for the info. I had seen the announcement about emailing problem
reports, but there was no accouncement that there was a fix.

This issue has been fixed on my machine, so I know it is possible! It's not
specfic to IE7--that's an accident in this thread, I think.

I do too, on another system, and I've had the symptom cited in this thread
on this machine, which has never seen IE7.

I think the issue its between IE6 and Defender

It's a malfunction of the attachmet manager-related functionality that
allows for virus scanning of attachments, as I understand it.
