Internet Explorer 6 SP1 freezes during dial-up

I have been troubleshooting the following problem for
nearly 2 years !

I have a Compaq EVO desktop with Win 98SE installed and
fairly stable.

However, when I establish a dial-up networking seession
with IE6 SP1, I find that every five minutes or so my IE6
session locks up for about a minute and then continues to
upload whichever web page I wanted to look at.

I have done the following things to try and troubleshoot
this :-

Replaced modem card

Reloaded IE6

Completely deleted Win directory and reloaded windows from
scratch.

I know a lot of people may think this is due to my modem
retraining which on the face of it would be a logical
conclusion.

However I will say the following, when these lockups
occur, if I have Outlook Express open, I can send/receive
mail even while my IE6 session is locked.

I will also say that usually when this condition occurs,
my IE6 window will not close if I click on the X etc.

Can anyone help with this as I've tried everything ?

You have parasites that are calling home while you wait.
Also not being able to close IE means that you also have a CoolWebSearch
malware.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
