Internet Explorer 6 proxy settings revert back to default user

After checking both proxy server boxes and entering a
proxy server address and port,then unchecking both boxes
in the automatic configuration settings, within no set
time frame or condition, the settings will change (by them
selves) to Automatically detect settings checked and proxy
server unchecked and the address grayed out.
Please advise

If no joy, boot to safe mode, make the settings the way you want, then reboot.
