Internet Explorer 6 freezes

Good Morning. My friend has an HP laptop (6 mos old), Win XP Home SP2, IE 6,
with Cable broadband (Road Runner). Lately when he launches IE, it freezes
for about 5 minutes, runs normal, then freezes again until he has to end
program. I did the following, and it still freezes - uninstalled and
reinstalled IE from the Windows cd, ran 3 different anti-spyware programs
(adawareSE, spybot S&D, Microsoft Beta), ran JV16 powertools and deleted
suspicious entries, deleted adware found by Norton antivirus, booted in
safemode and diabled suspicious add-ons in IE, disabled some startup apps in
msconfig. The only thing I didn't do was install a firewall (it was getting
late!). Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

First, I would totally delete the History and TIF (cache) folders for IE:

If no joy....

If all your spyware cleaning has failed, then the problem could be something
new that the
spyware cleaners above don't have in their databases yet. In that case....

Then post it's output log to the forum here for analysis and feedback by the

Or try this program to get some of the most nasty malware:

Also download a winsock repair tool, to have just in case cleaning up
anything found breaks it -

LSPFix- all versions of Windows http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip
Winsock2 Fix- Win98, ME
