Internet Explorer 6.0 unable to open https or windows update

I downloaded one of the critical updates and now my IE 6.0
does not open any https sites, and I cannot even go to the
windows update page anymore either. I have tried
downloading IE 6.0 again, but when I run the setup, it
says I already have a newer version and it terminates. I
have IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920 with the following
updates SP1, Q328970, Q324929, Q810847, Q813951, Q813489,
Q330994, Q818529. I am running windows XP home edition.

Help me please.

Look at your system clock. Is the date right? If it is set way into the
future, it will mess up secure sites. Fix it, delete cookies and reboot.
