I have a dell Windows XP machine. I am having trouble
connecting to the internet. If the machine is set for a
dynamic IP, the machine won't grab one. If a static IP is
input with the DNS numbers, I can ping the router, i can
ping the DNS servers, I can ping yahoo's ip address, but
when i try to ping www.yahoo.com, it can't resolve. When
i use IE and try to connect to www.yahoo.com i get "page
cannot be displayed", if i put in the ip i get "page
cannot be displayed". I removed the nic and reinstalled,
i tried a different nic, still no help. I can't open the
web interface for the router, nothing in ie works but, i
can ping ip addressed but not names. The DNS #'s all work
on another machine. I tested the cable, cable is fine,
tried a different port on the switch, still no help.
Driving myself crazy, hoping someone has a help hint.
Thanks in advance
