I am unable to do update downloads for Windows or other
products. It behaves like it is looking for a particular
port to be open. Can someone advise me on what I can
do to correct this problem? I am hoping that it is
something simple. I use a cable modem.

OS: XP Home, SP1
IE: 6.0

Windows Update Fails:
Disable your anti-virus when obtaining the updates.
Make sure that your firewall is allowing the connection to Windows Update .
This would be on ports 80 and 443.
