Internet Connectivity Problem

I have a new Dell Vostro running Vista. I can connect to the Internet and
download emails etc. but some websites will not load. Some other programs
that use the Internet will not connect either and it seems to depend what
sites are being accessed. Some sites only partially load. Windows update will
not work either because many of the Microsoft sites will not connect. This is
the same whether using my wireless or wired connection.

I have two other machines running XP, using the same connection with no
problems. When I connect my new laptop to other people's Internet connection
there is no problem (at a friend's house for instance). I've tried turning
security settings on and off and I've reset IE. The strange thing is that
everything works fine using another Internet connection plus my other
machines are fine.

Any ideas welcome.

Many Vista issues can be fixed by using netsh. Please check these posts for more details.

Much obliged for the link. The site is certainly laid out well for finding
similar problems.

The solution for me was to upgrade my router's firmware. I have a DrayTek
2600 and the upgrade was simple, painless and problem completely solved.
