Internet connections in Windows Mail

Why can't I turn off Windows mail's desire to dial up a new connection every
time I open it - even when there is already an active broadband connection?
I've tried what i would have done in Xp - gone into the Connections tab and
checked the "Never dial a connection" box but it still insists on trying to
dial my analogue connection evry time I open Windows mail......and without
that dial up connection it is incapable of accessing my broadband connection
(which works perfectly well with IE). Is this a system bug or am i doing
something wrong?

Is the Broadband Connection (default) defined under
Dial-up and Virtual Private network Setting?
Tools > Options > Connection > Change...etc.

You may have to select Setup and complete it.

In addition to what Julian said, make sure your Windows Mail
account isn't configured to override the Internet Explorer setting.
Go to Tools > Accounts > select the account > Properties >
Connection

ps. And if you could spare a moment to feedback on any successful
suggestions it would be helpful in establishing a "database" of solutions.

Julian & Gary - BINGO - Problem solved & thanks. The problem was that I was
focusing on the internet connection settings in IE & Windows mail without
thinking about the Accounts settings override possibility. When I tried to
check the Tools>accounts>connections tab it wouldn't open and I just got a
"Not Responding" message from Windows mail. So I deleted the two e-mail
accounts I had previously set up and then set them up again as new accounts
and they both work fine and Windows Mail is no longer trying to dial my
analogue connection.

Thanks again

Hi, I'm having the similar problem, everything was working fine until I took
my computer home and connected thru dial up, now when my computer is back at
work with the wireless connection, it connects fine, but I have the same
problem with not being able to send / receive email messages in windows mail.
| followed your instructions, but when I get click "add" or set up, I get
the message the I am connected to the internet already, (with my wireless),
what should I do? Is there anyway I can remove and reference to dial up at
all?

Nothing shows up under Dial-up and Virtual Private network Settings, so when
I click Set Up, then click Wireless, I'm advised I'm already
connected.....not sure what exactly I should be clicking, because it seems to
just keep taking me in circles. So I turned off my router (so no longer
connected), followed the same instructions as above, after clicking Set Up,
then Wireless, a list of networks appears (none of which are mine) so I click
on Set up a connection or network, then a window pops up with Choose a
connection option.......I selected the first option, Connect to the Internet,
Next, Then I'm asked how I want to connect, Wireless, then I am brought back
to the same Select a netowork to connect to, I'm right back to where are
started from....what am I missing?

This is still not working. I have tried following your instruction, I have
contacted my computer manufacturer, and my internet service provider, and
they can't come up with a solution! The manufacturer wants to send me a
recovery CD to wipe everything out, I have tried a system restore, it did not
work either. The problem I am having is that I cannot send or receive emails
with my wireless connection, should there not be an easier solution? My
wireless works for everything else, just not windows mail!! I'm gettting
frustrated! Please help. Brenda

HI Just checking you are in mail and using the tool drop down there and not
in your windows tools.
incase i missed something out in original instruction tools ,drop down menu
options, connection tab, no tick boxes checked select internet connection
settings change, select connections tab, never dial should be selected and
grayed out. select LAN select automatic connection. select apply and then
ok. test again. if still no luck and you are on your wireless connection, go
to control panel and make sure you are not still set for the dial up
connection in the internet options there. same tabs as above but if you want
to retain your none wireless connection at home you may need to switch
between the two depending where you are. if that is the case do not delete
the dial up just select never dial.
beyond that I wouldn't know enough to help you so checking others solutions.

What happens when you try to send or receive email?
What is the exact error message?

Hi Guys, after contacting Microsoft, they advised me that I needed a
different outgoing server for my wireless than I have for my dial-up, so I
contacted my ISP and the fellow advised that no, I didn't, he suggested that
I completely delete my pop3 connection, and set it up again, and Voila, my
emails work again!! Somehow my computer got hung, or confused I guess, and
this solved my problem.....thanks for your assistance, though. Nothing like
spending 5 hours an a "simple" problem!

Yes, mail accounts can get corrupted. Deleting the account and
recreating it will fix that. Glad you got it squared away.

after going round in circles for ages, i deleted my email account and then
reinstated it, and hey presto, the annoying dial-up box has gone at last,
thanks for your advice

Gary VanderMolen

Yes, that problem is often caused by a corrupted account.
If it happens again, you need to look into the reason why account
corruption is occurring. (Hint: your antivirus.)
