Internet Connection Sharing Problem

Hiya!

I just got a new computer yesterday, which is running
Windows XP Home Edition. I am trying to share the
internet connection with the old pc, which is running
Windows ME.

I managed to create a network so that they could share
files, but ME cannot access the internet. I turned off
the firewall, and have selected that the internet
connection can share.

They would be sharing a broadband connection with
Tiscali, using a Sagem modem (USB). The XP machine is
meant to be the host machine.

In the past, sharing a the bb connection has been fine on
Windows 98se on the laptop. But I can't get XP to do
it. Any ideas?

Thanx!

'Client' to internet connected computer type of network? Or, both computers
connect to the internet through a router?

Spirit,

I presume you mean that the host (XP) computer can access the internet with no
problem?

What was the previous host? The ME computer? Or the Win98 laptop?

Please define the scope of the problem in the client (ME) computer.
From a command window:
1) Ping www.yahoo.com.
2) Ping 66.94.230.33.
Report success / exact text of error messages.
From your browser:
3) Browse www.yahoo.com.
4) Browse 66.94.230.33.
Report success / exact text of error messages.

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Identify operating system (by name and version) with each ipconfig listing.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
