Hello,
First of all, I'd like you to know that I'm writing to you here as I'm
absolutely dispaired - I've tried everything to solve this problem (AFAIK)
and I still haven't made it.
Here's the situation - I have a DSL connection through a Speedtouch 330
plugged into a Windows Vista Home Premium desktop PC (I've managed to make it
work with the Windows XP x64 drivers, and it's still working - I'm writing
from this computer). This computer then connects through an Ethernet cable
directly on another laptop to share the Internet connection.
This had been working for two months, and I made no significant changes to
my computer recently. There are three laptops that connect here (obviously,
one at a time) - one running Windows XP, another running Mac OS X and a third
one running Windows Vista Ultimate.
The laptop running Windows XP was only connected once or twice, and it used
to work. The Windows Vista laptop was the one connected for most of the the
time, and it also used to work seamlessly with the Internet. When I connected
the Apple laptop, it *would* work fine with the Internet, but after
disconnecting it and reconnecting the Vista laptop there was always a problem
with the Internet which I can't exactly describe, even though I always
managed to solve it somehow (messing around with the network connections in
both the host and guest computers).
Recently, I think I might've messed everything up, as the Internet now works
only on the desktop PC - I've tried all three laptops, and none of them
manages to connect to the Internet. After proceeding with a System Restore,
I've managed to have the Windows Vista laptop and the host computer to
identify each other under the "Network" window (Start » Network) - the shared
printer (connected to the host) also works fine. The Internet connection,
however, still doesn't work, no matter what I do.
I've tried deleting the dial-up entry from the "Manage Network Connections"
window and creating a new one with the same details, but still no success.
Any suggestions? Thank you for your attention.
