I have a HP running Windows 98 2ed with 384 MB of ram. I recently upgraded
to Windows 2000 service pack 4. I also use ZoneAlarm Pro and a Linksys
wireless router. I use McAfee version 8. I connect to the Internet through a
Cable Modem.
I upgraded to Windows 2000. The install went fine but for the Internet
connection. The problem seems to involves TCP/IP since my gateway address
points back to the router and not the ISP although the ISP DSN address are
correct. Other programs that connect directly to the Internet like AOL and
McAfee seem to work fine but slow. I plan on deleting TCP/IP and seeing if
the OS reloads it with the correct settings. IE sometimes connect and
sometimes it does not when it does connect it run very slowly. Will the
Windows OS be able to reload TCP/IP?
Due to the problems mentioned above I partitioned out the C drive and
reloaded Windows 98 on the 2nd partition of C. I set Windows 2000 to give me
the option of choosing which operation system to boot up. Before I booted
Windows 98 I looked at the new partition and I noticed a folder that was
named “_â€(underscore without the quotation marks). This folder has one file
in it called CLOACKER.EXE When I right click on it I get the following
information version 2.0.0.0, description stealthy application catapult
copywriter 1998; product name CLOACKER.EXE, Application veil. Since I did
know what it was I changed its name to CLOAKEREXE.TXT and went on to do
something else. I have not booted using Windows 98 since I saw this file but
a day later I looked at the file and its name was changed back to
CLOACKER.EXE. I ran Virus checker and it detected no problems.
Is this file a W2k file or do you have any information about this file?
