Internet Connection Problem...

I recently downloaded Service Pack 2 for Win XP and after
I have updated it my internet connection has been giving
me problems. I've been talking to several technicians
from my charter pipeline cable provider and they couldn't
find anything wrong in their logs with any type of
dropping, so it has to be client side for me. They said
it could of been some sort of problem stopping it on the
SP2 update so I was wondering what is going on and how I
can fix this? I used to stay connected perfectly
especially when playing games, because I am a big
multiplayer gamer before I updated to SP2, since the
update I have been getting RANDOM disconnects having my
CABLE and DATA light blank out for 10 seconds then go
back on causing me to lose a connection of whatever I am
doing, how can I fix this and please, what is causing
this!? The box is not bad because it was even replaced
and it didn't seem to help.

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one having this problem.
I have a home network with 3 computers, one directly
connected to the internet and the other indirectly
through internet sharing. Roughly 1/2 the time the
network is working, then suddenly from no where printer
sharing, file sharing, and the internet will just die.
All of these services would just suddenly start working
again. some time later. This has made me very
frustrated. What ultimately worked for me was
uninstalling Service Pack 2 on the one computer directly
on the internet. Suddenly after that everything worked
again. I'm still very upset about having had to do that
and am hoping there is a better solution. The other 2
computers still have sp2, it only seems to matter if this
computer with the internet connection has it installed.
Needless to say I never had prorblems like this untill
Service Pack 2 for XP.

Try un-installing the network adapter in Device Manager and letting XP
detect and re-install it. Try downloading and installing the latest
network card driver program from the manufacturer's web site.
