Internet Connection Icons

Since downloading and installing SP2, I have 2 internet
connection icons (the two little computers) on my task
bar. One has an exclaimation mark in it. If I click on
it, it says Limited or No Connectivity. If I disable it,
i get disconnected from DSL.

What is this all about ?

SP2 puts an new connection icon on your taskbar.
Go to Network properties > right click > properites on your connection
On the bottom, you will see 2 check box. Uncheck the ones that you don't
want to see.

I am not on a network.

In Control Panel Internet Connectiona shows my DSL as
Broadband and connected, Dial-up and a LAN/High Speed
which is showing as Limited/No Connectivity. If I
disable the LAN/Highspeed Connection, the DSL
diconnects. If I try the repair function, it says
renewing IP address and then fails.

You *are* on a network because you have dsl. You can hide the system
tray icons if seeing them bothers you. Right-click on the My Network
Places icon if you have it on your desktop, or go to Start>Network
Connections. Right-click on the Local Area Connection and left-click on
Properties. On the General tab you will see two boxes:

Show icon in Notification Area when connected
Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectability

Set these the way you want them. Leave your connection settings for the
dsl alone.

Sorry, I didn't realize that subscribing to DSL was
infact a network. That being so, why are there two
connection icons on the taskbar and why is one saying
limited or no connectivity. Doesn't this signify a
problem ??

There are two icons because you have two network devices. If this is a
laptop, one of them might be wireless. If your connectivity is fine,
don't worry about it. This seems to be a buglet with SP2.

Nope, single desktop computer. Nothing wireless.

Sound like your telling me that this exclamation point in
the second connection icon is an SP2 buglet and is to be
ignored, so, I will follow your recommendation. Thanks.
