Internet Connection Gateway

I'm having a problem where the "Internet Connection Gateway" (or is it
"Internet Gateway Connection") icon category is not being displayed in my
Network Connections window. I only get the "LAN or High-Speed Internet"
category showing. All my connections are listed there and seem to be working
fine. I can access the Internet and other computers on my network. My home
network is set up to go through a LinkSys router as my gateway. This
"Internet Connection Gateway" has always been there until very recently.
Possibly, coincidentally, I am not able to connect via Audio with anybody
anymore when using MSN Messenger (which is what got me to start
investigating and realize that "Internet Connection Gateway" is no longer
displayed).

I have tried searching the Network Connections help but can't even find any
reference to this category. Can anybody please shed some light on what this
category is exactly, what is does, why it may or may not be displayed, and
whether it could have anything to do with my inability to use audio
connections with MSN Messenger.

Thanks

No Modem??

Thats very odd....I too have this same problem that just
appeared this last weekend.

In my case the Network component that is not being listed
is my modem.

I can make a new connection and the connection apeears
for a while in the connections area, but then vanishes.

I checked and my connections are still there, its just
that I cannot access them easily.

Problem solved, I think. I checked my LinkSys router and noticed that uPnP
was disabled, which apparently happened when I reset it sometime back. With
MSN Messenger 6, uPnP must be enabled to support voice communication. So I
enabled it, and not only did my voice communication work, but the "Internet
Gateway" icon also re-appeared.
