Internet closing down message

When I connect to the Internet and in particular if I use
Google after a few moments I receive a message to say the
computer will close down and I have 60 seconds to save any
work. The message goes on to say that this NT
Authority System Remote Procedure Call (RPC) the service
will be terminated. Is this an Internet explorer problem,
windows problem or ISP software problem. I also can
receive the Microsoft Closing down message with the
option to send the report to microsoft - this says Generic
Host Process for Win 32 Service problem

You need to patch your PC with all the patches. Your
error sometimes indicates the Blaster virus.

Thanks for your suggestion - I will try downloading the
patches but I must say that this happened immediately
after a clean install of XP following a reformat of the
hard drive
