Internal v External DVD burner - write times

I'm thinking of purchasing a 8.4Gb (dual layer) DVD writer primary for
making a back up image of my XP Operating System etc

I would like the flexibility of an external DVD burner (USB) but I am
concerned about the time it will take compared with an Internal IDE
model.

Does anyone know approximately how long it would take (in minutes) to
write the maximum 8.4Gb (Dual Layer) at x4 speeds DVD-RW or DVD+RW using
the following connectivity:

1. IDE
2. USB2
3. USB1

Thanks - Steve B.

Forget the USB1 drives. DVD writers still don't write as fast as data
can be transferred at so write times should be similar between IDE &
USB2.
