Internal CD/DVD Drive - Delay in reading / Malfunction

HELP! My internal CD/DVD Player/Burner does not perform. I have tried
everything from reinstalling XP after formatting the harddisk.I have now even
bought a brand-new DVD drive (Sony Dual Layer DVD+/-) and I still have the
same problem. The drive sometimes does read the content on the DVD/CD (with 2
- 5 min delay) but I cannot use it to install software or run any
applications, most of the time its sits there and does not do anything...

This is drive is connected along with the FDD to this controller and no
mulfunctions are being reported in the hardware profile. I have set the drive
hardware-wise as a master, as this was the only setting under which the
system recognised both drives.

All this time I had used an external DVD +/- reader/writer from Freecom
connected via USB2 and it has no such issues.

cd/dvd drives cannot be attached to the fdd ribbon cable it should be

Thanx, I checked again and found out that FDD is acually connected
separately. I have the DVD drive as a single device conncted to one of the 2
on-board controllers, so it wasn't that.

Further I get the following error most of the times:" E:\is not valid Win32
application" (e: being the the DVD drive that gives me the headache).

Thanks any help!
