Intermittent Sound

Most of the time when I turn on my computer with Windows
XP Home Edition, I get no sound of any kind. On rare
occasions, when I turn on my computer, I get all Windows
sounds and all "sound" applications work normally. Is
there a function that turns the sound on at start up?
 
Have you checked the soundcard manufacturer's website to be sure you have
the latest drivers installed. If you already have the latest drivers, have
you tried removing and reinstalling them and have you checked to make sure
your card is compatible with XP?
