intermittent network problems

I have a small business network that is driving me nuts!! It contains 1 W2K
server, 1 xp platform, and 2 win98 platforms. The problem usually occurs at
morning startup. The xp machine can't connect with the server until the
server is restarted and the 2 win98 machines never experience a problem. Once
the connection is established it seems to work great, until the next
morning!! The server remains on at all times while the other machines are
shutdown at closing. I have changed cables and hubs with no effect. Any help
would be greatly appreciated!!

It may be the computer browsing issue. Any errors in the event viewer on both XP and server?

Thanks for the reply, Bob. The only errors i have seen are "unable to restore
connection" and "path not found" Also I have compared the processes in Task
Manager and saw that when the problem occurs winmgmt.exe is not running on
the server.

Can you ping the server by ip next morning? Also check the power management that doesn't make the server sleep.

I'll give it a try tommorrow, little foggy on what you mean by the server
sleeping, it stays on all the time due to online backup.
