Intermittent fault loading personal settings

Hi - I've got a strange problem which I think I caused when using AntiSpyware
Beta 1.

I inadvertently accepted a yes/no prompt on a popup message and since then I
occasionally can't load my personal settnigs. I get the following message:

"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system"

I also now cannot either download latest update or even remove Spyware as I
get the following message:

Error 1606. Could not access network location %USERPROFILE%\Local
Settnigs\Application Data\.

This might not seem a big problem but subsequently I can't load any
Microsoft updates for Office 2003 and I wonder if the problem is related?

Hoping someone might know what I've done and how to fix it?

Thanks Ramesh, but I'm a real novice and I didn't really understand what I
had to do.

When I naviagated to the location you suggested there was a sub folder
called new. Inside that was a right pane with three columns, name, type and
data; name has ab (default), Type has REG_SZ and the data column is empty.
The only thing I can then seem to do is right click the name which allows me
to edit the string. The value name is greyed out and value data is blank.

I also don't understand what yuor instructiuons says abuot backing up the
above brach to a .REG file

I'm very new to this and am concerned I'll do somethnig fatal to the machine

The data assigned to AppData is %USERPROFILE%\Application Data and the Type
is REG_EXPAND_SZ

However I noticed that the Type for Local AppData is only REG_SZ

Gareth,

Local Appdata should be a REG_EXPAND_SZ type with the following data:

%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data

If it's shown as REG_SZ, then delete it and then create a new value of type
REG_EXPAND_SZ. Alternately, you may use the REG fix available in the link I
posted earlier.
