Intermittant broadband internet connection since installing XP SP2

I've been having problems on my home broadband connection since installing XP
SP2 a week or so ago. The internet connection works fine for a variable
length of time from a few minutes up to a number of hours and then just seems
to die. My ISP says that the DNS Client is not working properly. Manually
stopping and starting the DNS Client doesn't fix the problem nor does
restarting the PC. but rebooting the cable modem does. So I'm guessing that
Windows must do something when the internet connecting is reset. Drawing on
another post I have now disabled powersave settings on the ethernet card but
I still have problems. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

If re-starting the PC doesn't fix it, but re-booting the cable modem does,
then the issue is with the cable modem / ISP, not the PC.
