Unable to browse internet

hi!

recently i got a broadband adsl connection using smc 7007 modem. the
connection works fine for my desktop. but, when i try connecting the
modem to my thinkpad, i'm unable to browse the internet.

though it gets connected to the ISP and resolves domain names for a
minute or so, nothing happens afterwards. i'm not able to ping to the
ISP or any site there after. local loop back is successful on the
broadband adapter. i tried disabling the ethernet adapter but again no
good.

i tried by assigning DNS server IP, but no good. Also, IP reset doesn't
seem to work. thinkpad has winXP SP2 installed and it works well for
dial up connections or internet access over LAN.

anyone please suggest the possible cause and remedy..

thanks,

gaurav

Buy a wireless router (Linksys, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin etc.). You will
attach it to the DSL modem. You can then connect a number of computers
to the router with ethernet and you'll also be able to access the
Internet on the Thinkpad wirelessly. Here is a link to illustrate the
setup (you don't have to buy a Linksys - the pictures are useful on
this site is all):
