hi. My MIL is computer illerate, so I do all of her
computer stuff. She has Norton and Anti-spy on her
computer, and also adaware 7.0.
She got a notice that a browser helper wanted to install
its self from anti-spy. There were several attemps (at
least 5) and she denied all of them. Now she cannot
access email, the internet or nothing. It is not a
problem with the ISP. It has something to do with anti-
spy and that application that was trying to install.

I am going to uninstall anti-spy, reboot, run Norton and
AdAware. If that dont work, I dont know what I will do.
Any ideas?? thanks!!!

After you run Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta), you have network-related
problems, or you receive an error message

On the Real-Time Protection panel and under each system agent (Internet,
System, and Application), use the "Manage allowed/blocked" option to
reconfigure what has been allowed or blocked. You could wipe them all
out and start from scratch and re-answer all those prompts and maybe
next time she will answer them correctly, or you could exercise each
application and answer the prompts yourself. There are 59 checkpoints
and currently you have to go to each one to manage its allowed/blocked
list. Yep, a real pain. Hopefully Microsoft will modify Giant's code
to provide a global reset or clear option on all those allowed/blocked
settings so you can start over from scratch rather than having to
uninstall and reinstall their product (which would probably take less
time and effort than separately editing each checkpoint's list).

FWIW, I believe all these settings are contained in one (or two)--of the
..gcd files in the install directory. If you make some changes, observe
which file changes, and try deleting that file, I believe you can reset to
defaults without so much effort.

I don't know what negatives this method has--say on remembering blocked
items or removal of items from quarantine, but it seems to work in test
situations.

Certainly not a mechanism for end users to rely on, but one which does seem
to work.
