interactive buttons, multiple sets

hi folks

I'm sure one of you good folks will save my bacon as usual

I have a series of websites, all of which exhibit the same odd behavior with
interactive buttons.

I have a bunch of buttons in the left margin, each of which pulls up ( lets
call it ) a chapter, and in each 'chapter' are a number of related pages.
On the top of each page is an imbedded page which has 'page numbers' for all
the 'pages' in that chapter. So, it's a grid where the 'vertical' buttons in
the left margin and the 'horizontal' buttons at the top combine to let the
user select a page. I have a sample, but don't see any way to attach it. to
see what this button arrangement looks like , please see
www.remotehybridsystem.com

Anyway, I build all the buttons, save them into a folder I call "BUTTONS",
and everything looks dandy until I use the thing.

Then, if I scroll across the buttons, some of them get corrupted with images
from other buttons. What used to say 'chapter one' now says ' page 3 '.

I'm pretty sure that what's happening is that as I save the buttons as I
create them, they are assigned names which are already in use.

I have tried and get confused by :

1 - the option in BUTTON PROPERTIES called "overwrite original image"

2 - the option when saving which is either " save this file " or " use the
one on disk" . I think SAVE is the one I always want, but it's not real
clear.

When generating interactive buttons ( or modifying them ) is there a way to
force FP to always pick a new name so the buttons don't get confused ? I
have tried having a different folder within BUTTONS for each set of chapters
or pages, but that doesn't seem to help.

appreciate your time in helping me out

You are using shared borders for the left buttons, so it is possible that your "embedded" page is using the same ID values for the buttons as the left border. IDs must be unique on the complete page.
See http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/fp/b/buttons/restrict.aspx for details, and
http://www.rxs-enterprises.org/fp/b/buttons/pages2/buttontest.htm for a demonstration.

The save dialogue allows you to change the names of buttons as they are initially saved. In my experience FrontPage does not normally use duplicate names - but I have seen the exception to this rule.
"Overwrite Original Image" usually means you have edited an existing button.

When you create each page with buttons change the name of each IB to make it unique (and meaningful to you)
- the save dialog has the option to change the names and save as properties
