Insufficient Resources...

BlankAfter being on my pc for awhile, especially after going to Outlook Express, my system seems to freeze and then get the message..... Insufficient System Resources Exist To Complete The Requested Task...

I then have to reboot, which is a little difficult, and then things work ok for awhile. Then the same thing happens again.

My task manager doesn't show any unusual peaks, etc. I have 512/120, so I certainly have a big enough drive, and my hard drive still has 90% free space. I have also checked for worms, viruses, etc, and everything comes up clean.

Please help this grandma..

Thanks,
Helen

hit "ctrl-alt-delete" and click on the "Processes" tab................this
isn't easy to analyse but whatever is using up the majority of your memory
resources should be evident somewhere on the list. If the process name
doesn't ring any bells then press the "End Process" button and see if the
problem diminishes, at least until next time you log in. If nothing more,
you've identified the application causing the problem which if you post the
name of back to this forum we can possibly advise on. I suspect your pc may
be busy working hard for somebody else ! Which Spyware/Adware programmes are
you using?

I've checked the processes, and they're all needed.

I have Nortons AV, Microsoft Antispyware, Ad-aware, Win Patrol...
Everything was working fine till just a few days ago. I deleted all the
temp files, included the hidden ones using %temp%. So far, the system is
working longer than it has been. I'll have to keep an eye on it, and will
report back.

I have to say Helen that for a Grandma you sure are "switched on" with
reference to your pc.....impressed I am ! One possible way of locating the
intermittent problem is to run "eventvwr.msc" in your "run" facility on the
the Start menu. This keeps a log of all events over approximately the last 30
days period. The freezes and slow-downs should be recorded within the
application file. It's particularly helpful if you note the time on your
computer when the freeze occurs and then check that time out on the log.
Again, this may indicate the application responsible for the
problem..............One other method of controlling unnecessary use of
memory resources is to run "msconfig"....start-up tab....and uncheck
unnecessary applications which are running at start up. The majority are
unnecessary and can be switched on when required as opposed to running in the
background all the time consuming precious memory resources. Worth a try and
it's easy to reverse the process if required. I wouldn't be surprised to
hear you've already done this but just in case ! Good luck Helen.

Yep. Tried all of it. Thanks for the compliment.

Well, I think I've done the right things. I've been on the pc all day....
even put it in standby for quite awhile, and came back to a working system.
In fact, I think it's working better than it has been in quite awhile. I'm
still keeping my fingers crossed and taking an extra blood pressure pill
before starting it up. LOL

Thanks to you and this great group for all the suggestions. One or all of
them worked.
