Instant Search Doesn't Work

My Outlook 2007 instant search has stopped working. It doesn't return any
results no matter what words I enter and even if I search all folders.
Desktop search doesn't find any emails, either.

Any ideas?

Symptom: Instant search fails
OS Vista Ultimate
Outlook 2007
Tried and failed solutions:
1 reboot
2 diagnostics
3 rebuild indexes
Solution: Create new profile (credits to technodad and no credits to
Microsoft who are ignoring the issue)

My instant search only works if I uncheck all the boxes under the heading
"Index messages in this data files." This is exactly the opposite of what it
should be. Do other people experience this? Why should that be?

After doing everything MS and others suggested over the last few hours mpb's
solution worked for me too. Unbelievable! Thanks mpb

My instant search isn't working for Outlook 2003 on my 3 Terminal Servers and
also a few Outlook 2007 PCs running Vista and Windows XP. I can't find a
work-around for the Outlook 2003. Does anyone have an answer? Did Microsoft
release an update that triggered the search to stop working?

Thanks Richard for a solution to a critical issue - counterintuitive but
works instantly. Oddly, I have 2 vista machines running MSO2007, both with
identical addins (Google Desktop Search & OsaSync, latter syncing
cal/contacts only) - the Vista 64 bit system had the search-gone-blind issue
but the Vista 32 did not.

I'm having the very same problem. Instant search in both email folders and
contacts stopped working days ago and doesn't pick up obvious matches. Dumb
question: How do I create a new profile?

Hi. How do I create a new profile? I'm having the same problem and it's
really frustrating. Instant search in both contacts and email stopped
working a week ago.
