Installing XP Pro

I'm working on a friends computer and everytime I try to install or repair
window's it get's hung up at "34 minutes remaining" while it's "installing
devices"

I found the harddrive to be bad (could not format while in his computer or
when installed in mine), and replaced it with a new one and his computer
formated it just fine but it's still hung up at the 34 minute mark.

I tried to do the online chat and e-mail support, but I have no way of
getting the PID...

any all help would be appriciated!!!

This is often caused by having unnecessary USB peripheral devices
connected during the installation.
