Installing XP Pro over XP Home

I recently purchased a copy Win XP Pro Upgrade (it says it contains Service
Pack 2) to install over my OEM copy of Win XP Home (also updated with Service
Pack 2) supplied with my two year old Dell Dimension 8250. I was unable to
run the Upgrade Adviser because it said my Home version was newer than the
Adviser. I have seen numerous posts about this problem. Shouln't I be able to
install the newer SP2 version of the XP Pro Upgrade without uninstalling
Service Pack 2 and/or making a slipstream CD?

I used the Upgrade Adviser directly from the Microsoft website. Thank you for
responding.

As long as Windows XP Pro is retail and not OEM it should work.
You may need to uninstall SP-2 before upgrading.

Is the Windows XP Pro a genuine Microsoft CD and not a burned copy?

Yes, the copy of XP Pro is a retail upgrade that I bought at Office Depot.
The CD is genuine Microsoft. The XP Home I am installing over is an OEM
version supplied with my Dell computer. Thanks for your response.
