installing xp new

I’m having a problem installing Windows XP on my new system. I can’t get
passed the EULA. F8 doesn’t do anything. I can page down and up to read the
agreement, and “esc†to exit the setup. The hard drive isn’t new, but I did
put a new one in there to see if that was possibly the problem, but the same
result. It’s a brand new system, built last night. I can boot to the 98’
boot disk and I portioned and formatted the drive. It’s an OEM XP, so
Microsoft wasn’t going to help me without 35 dollars and of course the shop
that I bought all the parts from is closed on a Sunday. I have built a system
before, this one actually, and I didn’t have this problem.

It’s a WinFast motherboard, with a 2600 Sempron chip. The hard drive is a
Gateway drive, as well as the DVD-ROM, and floppy. I don’t think it’s the
drive, because the system I’m using now has a gateway drive and it runs just
fine. And I also put a new drive in the new system to rule that problem out.

Any suggestions would be great.

Probably something with the keyboard. I had a same problem last year with
the F8 key on an OEM install, changed the keyboard, F8 worked, the install
went on from there.

thats the only thing i've been unable to try. i have an aftermarket keyboard,
so i'm going to the friends house, who's computer i'm building, to give that
a try. i did try the tab key to access the little menu bar at the bottom of
the setup screen, but it didn't do anything either.

thanks for the suggestions and i'll keep you posted on the results.

Thanks everyone for the quick response. We are up and running. I can't
believe a keyboard cost me three hours!!!
