I'm trying to fix a friends computer and she is getting a
serious error on installation. I am able to do fdisk,
and format, but when XP tries to load the setup files it
gets half way through it and crashes. I looked through
the Knowledge base and tried to find the error, but they
don't have it listed. The error is:

"Stop: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x80896DB4, 0xF88BA4E0,
0x0xF88BA1E0)"

If anyone has any ideas on which direction I should go.
I have tried to update the BIOS, switch the hard drive
and cannot come up with any ideas.

Thanks

From the CD, do a Hardware Compatibility Check.

Ed:

According to my Xp book "Almost 90 % of setup failures
are caused by incompatible hardware" and many times this
is either the CD/bus controller or hard drive
controller. First, make sure you have flashed the bios
with the latest available prior to attempting setup. If
it still fails, then during setup, at the bottom of the
screen you are prompted to provide additional drivers, so
you may have to obtain these.

You don't have to do fdisk, since XP will partition and
reformat the drive.

Just some thoughts.
