I took my 70-270 exam yesterday and fail!!! So I am trying to try and find
out the answers I may have got wrong - one of the questions I was asked
was.....

I had to install XP on 100 pc's via sysprep, and I had a volume licence
etc...., but I had lost the disk. Went to the shop and bought 2 XP off the
shelf.

When installing it - it stopped on the volume number and wouldn't except the
volume licence number.

What do you do?

I have looked everywhere for the answer and couldn't find it.

Thanks

My guess is to install the copy using the key provided with the retail copy,
then change the product key after installation to the VLK, then sysprep.

This shouldn't be any kind of surprise. VL keys will not work with retail
CDs.
What do you do?

Get a replacement VL disk. The setup checks are not the same as retail
disks, so retail keys will not work.

It's really just asking for trouble to use the wrong disk during install,
and then hope to change keys later.

Use the correct tools for the job.

it's real simple:

OEM Keys only work on OEM CDs/installs
Retail Keys only work on Retail CDs/installs.
Volume License Keys only work on Volume License CDs/installs.
Upgrade Keys only work on Upgrade CDs/installs.
