Installing Windows XP on Secondary Ide

I am trying to install Windows XP using the secondary ide, as the primary ide
no longer works.

The first part of the installation works, but when It reboots for the first
time I get a system error saying that it can't find
"multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)"

I assuming it's looking for the harddrive on the primary ide?

Is there anything I can do?

If you actually mean the IDE 1 controler on the mobo has failed, install a
new mobo.

In most BIOSes, "rdisk(0)" refers to the HD at the head of
the BIOS's hard drive boot order (the boot order specifically
for HDs). This boot order should be displayable in the BIOS
as a list of HDthat it has found, the HD at the head of the list
being the one whose MBR gets control from the BIOS at
boot time.

Go into the BIOS, and find the HD boot order, and see if your
new HD is at the head of that list. If your old HD is at the head
of that list, edit the list so that your new HD is at the head of the
list - OR disconnect the HD so the BIOS only sees the new HD -
and try booting again.

Don't know if this helps.... I"m no expert on IDE but on my MB I"vee got
IDE0 pri+sed IDE1 pri+sec.

On my PC I can, via the BIOS disable that stuff (If my recollection is
accurate) in any combo. You might check your BIOS settings.
