I have an IBM ativa which came with WIN 98 installed. WIN
XP won't recognize the WIN 98 and asks for original disc.
The only thing I have is the Product recovery disc from
IBM which has the WIN 98 programs. When I put that in to
respond to proof I have WIN 98 it doesn't read it.

Anybody know what to do?

Thanks

OEM "recovery disks" are not able to be used as qualifying media
when performing a "clean install" of Windows XP "upgrade version".

The upgrade CD setup will usually not recognise such a CD as evidence.

Run the CD from the existing system. Enter Install, and either just do
an upgrade, or change Upgrade to New Install. Then when it asks you to
confirm where, you can hit ESC and get the chance to select the current
partition, delete it, and create a new RAW one, going on to format it
as part of the setup. This will give you a clean install, and by that
time will have made the eligibility check.
