Installing windows 2000 professional

i was wondering on how i would go about installing a fresh
copy of windows 2000 professional.. right now i'm running
xp pro. when i pop in the cd for 2000 professional the
choice to install is grayed out. what do i do?

Fdisk the system. This means to remove existing
partitions. Then create the new partition. Once this is
finished. Reboot with 2000 pro cd, It will ask you to
format before installing. After install is complete, go to
the windows upgrade and get all the critical and win 2000
updates downloaded and installed. I hope you have a high
speed connection for the updates to be downloaded. They
are quite large.

if you have a bootable 2000 install cd, you can boot directly from it
and delete the existing partitions, format a new one, etc. just be
sure that you back up all your data, have a bootable cd, a bootable
cd-rom drive, and that you have a floppy disk for any hard disk
controller cards you have. xp has drivers (e.g. the promise ata-100
card driver) that aren't included in 2000's driver set. you can't do
it from anything but a floppy, so watch out!
